Tahini and Hummus Recipe

Tahini and hummus are known as healthy dips and are very popular. They can be used in a variety of ways such as dips for veggie sticks and a spread on toast, but they can also be used to cook food, to add some nutty flavor.

Here are recipes for homemade tahini and hummus

1. Tahini Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 200 g sesame seeds toasted
  • 1 tbs extra virgin olive oil

Method:

Step 1

Lightly toast sesame seeds on a low heat until golden brown, remove from heat and let cool.

Step 2

Put the seeds in a food processor and process for 1 minute. Add the olive oil and keep mixing for another 2 – 3 minutes until smooth. You will need to stop processing occasionally to scrape down the sides of the food processor bowl.

Step 3

Transfer the tahini to a glass jar, cover it with a lid and keep it in the refrigerator.

2. Hummus Recipe

Ingredients:

  •  400 g canned chickpeas (peeled)
  • 2 tbs tahini
  • ½ tsp Himalayan salt
  • ½ tsp ground cumin
  • 1 clove garlic minced
  • 2 tbs extra virgin olive oil
  • 3 tbs lemon juice freshly squeezed
  • 3 tbs cold water
  • Pinch ground paprika for serving

Method:

Rinse the chickpeas and place in a medium-sized bowl. Add filtered water and rub the chickpeas to peel. Remove the skins, drain the chickpeas and transfer to a food processor. Add the tahini, lemon juice, garlic, salt, and cumin and process for 5 minutes until the mixture is smooth.

Gradually add oil and water and mix for another 2 minutes until the mixture becomes smooth.

Refrigerate for 2 hours before serving.
