Did You Know That… Food Matters

Did you know that you can unlock your unique body’s ultimate health potential? Keep reading to find out why food matters.

Risks of a Modern Diet

As we know, the modern diet is rich in saturated fats, added sugars, additives, flavour enhancers, artificial colours and flavours, which lead to obesity, high blood pressure, cardiovascular disease and diabetes. However, a modern diet can also cause nutrient deficiencies that can alter body functions and processes at the cellular level. So, a lack of nutrients can make us feel weak or tired, it can cause headaches or a fast heart rate, it can disrupt digestion, cause bleeding gums, but if left untreated, nutrient deficiencies can also cause serious conditions.

Modern diet is based on convenient, but highly processed foods that contain large amounts of sugar, salt and unhealthy oils and trans-fats. It causes the development of overweight and obesity, which has become one of the biggest health problems in the modern world. The health risks of being overweight and obese include high blood pressure, high cholesterol, high levels of triglycerides, stroke, gallbladder disease, fatty liver, type 2 diabetes, coronary heart disease, osteoarthritis and death.

Overweight and obesity, as well as related diseases, can be prevented.  Choosing healthier foods, or at least avoiding “junk foods” and sugary drinks, is among the easier steps. A balanced diet that includes the consumption of fruits and vegetables as well as healthy fats, proteins, and fibre is the key factor that contributes to improving health.

Why Food Matters

A healthy body detoxifies easily, but what happens if the body is not healthy or strong enough? What goes wrong?

Modern life has brought more health problems than ever before. Fast food seemed to be a good option for people working full time, but it brought with it modern diseases such as diabetes, cardiovascular disease, high blood pressure and cholesterol. Food in supermarkets is rich in saturated fat, sugar and salt, and it is also addictive: the more you eat, the more you crave.

A modern lifestyle that includes sedentary activities, lack of movement, staying awake late into the night, snacks and a diet rich in unhealthy fats and sugar contributes to our body losing the ability to detoxify to the necessary extent. If the amount of toxins introduced into the body is much higher than it should be, that creates additional pressure on the organs responsible for detoxification. This creates blockages that lead to various diseases. Besides this, the modern diet causes acidity in the body.

A healthy diet reduces the risk of weakening of the body and developing diseases. Research has shown that people who ate fruits had a 20% lower risk of developing heart disease. Nutrients and antioxidants present in fruit improve heart health, and a fruit-based diet can reduce the risk of a heart attack.

Take Your Health into Your Own Hands

Your gut is the powerhouse that powers your entire body. It is responsible for your immune response, your energy levels, mood and mental clarity. Eating processed foods rich in sugars, fats, and harmful chemicals causes inflammation in the body. Some lifestyle factors, such as smoking, high body mass index, excessive or lack of exercise, chronic stress and drinking alcohol, can also contribute to inflammation in the body.

Inflammation in the body can cause a number of symptoms, such as:

  • Pain or tenderness
  • Flushed skin
  • Heat
  • Swelling
  • Abdominal pain
  • Chest pain
  • Joint pain
  • Fever
  • Fatigue
  • Mouth sores
  • Skin rash

So, food does matter. Good health requires clean air and water, rest, cheerfulness and good food.  If you take your health into your own hands, you can change your life and avoid or reduce suffering.
