Easter is a Christian festival and cultural holiday commemorating the resurrection of Jesus from the dead. It is the time when we hang out with friends and family and have fun. The Easter holidays are usually followed by some traditional menus, so we bring you a recipe for Easter hot cross buns to try and enjoy.

Easter Hot Cross Buns
Servings: 12
Preparation: 30 minutes
Cooking: 30 minutes
Ingredients:
- 3 ½ cups plain flour
- 2 ½ tsp dry yeast
- ¾ cup sultanas
- ¼ cup raw sugar
- ½ tsp Himalayan salt
- ½ tsp nutmeg
- 1 free-range egg
- 2 tbsp butter, room temperature
- 310 ml filtered water
Crosses:
- ½ cup plain flour
- 80 ml filtered water
- 2 tsp raw sugar
Glaze:
- 2 tbsp filtered water
- 2 tbsp raw sugar
- 1 tsp gelatine
Directions:
Step 1
Place all ingredients in a large bowl and mix until all are combined. Knead the dough on a floured surface until it becomes elastic and springs back when pressed.


Step 2
Line a baking tray with baking paper and preheat oven to 200°C.

Step 3
Divide the dough into 12 pieces, roll them into balls and place on a tray, close to each other, but not touching.

Step 4
Cover the tray with a clean cloth and allow to rise for 30 minutes.
Step 5
Crosses: Mix flour, sugar, and water to get a smooth mixture. Pipe the crosses over the buns.

Step 6
Bake the buns for 30 minutes, or until golden brown.

Step 7
Glaze: Mix the water, sugar and gelatine in a microwave-safe jug and microwave on medium for 1 to 2 minutes. Glaze the entire surface of the hot buns and transfer them to a wire rack to cool.
Serving suggestion:
- Serve with fresh cream and fruit;
- Serve with ice cream;
- Serve with coffee or tea.

- Store the leftover buns in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days;
- Store the leftover buns in an airtight container in the freezer for up to 2 months.
