Grounding

What is Grounding

Grounding or earthing is a therapeutic technique that focuses on realigning one’s electrical energy by reconnecting to the earth. This means direct skin contact with the surface of the Earth and involves connecting with the Earth’s natural energy by walking barefoot, lying on the ground or grass, spending time at the beach, submersing in the water, or using earthing tools such as earthing mats and sheets, earthing socks, earthing bands and patches.

Why Grounding

Modern life includes the use of electrical devices and appliances, new technologies that create harmful electromagnetic fields, and a lack of time or opportunity to spend time in nature. Combined with constant stress, processed foods and unhealthy drinks, this causes a number of health problems known as “modern diseases”, such as inflammation, obesity, diabetes, depression, high blood pressure and cholesterol. These are chronic diseases that people deal with for the rest of their lives. Grounding is a way to get some of the benefits that nature has to offer, and studies have shown that it can provide many health benefits. It allows us to absorb Earth’s beneficial electrons, which act as antioxidants that help neutralise free radicals and reduce inflammation in the body, and greatly impacting our mental and physical health.

Benefits of Grounding

Grounding offers many health benefits, such as reduced inflammation, improved sleep, improved electrical activity of the brain, improved tissue and cell repair and improved blood flow. Walking barefoot releases endorphins that can improve mood and help with anxiety and depression.

  • Improves the immune system – It restores the body’s natural defences.
  • Improves cardio-vascular health – It reduces the accumulation of red blood cells.
  • Reduces chronic pain – Studies have shown that grounding helps reduce pain in the body.
  • Reduces muscle damage – Studies have shown that grounding can help reduce muscle damage and improve the body’s healing abilities.
  • Antidepressant properties – Earthing therapy reduces stress, depression and fatigue and improves mood.
  • Anti-inflammatory properties – Multiple studies have shown that grounding can help reduce inflammation in the body, which is linked to a number of chronic health conditions such as diabetes, arthritis, heart disease and cancer.
  • Improves sleep – It can improve sleep and reduce sleep disturbances, and help waking up more refreshed.
  • Reduces blood pressure – Long-term grounding can reduce blood pressure.
  • Improvement of blood circulation – Studies have shown that grounding improves blood flow by relaxing the arteries.
  • Increases energy levels – Reconnecting with Earth’s electrons provides increased energy levels in the body.
  • Improves senses – Grounding barefoot provides a natural sensory experience for our feet.
  • Strengthens the muscles and bones – Grounding barefoot outside can strengthen the muscles and bones in the body.
  • Enhances body balance – Barefoot walking enables the body to be more connected to the ground which improves the body’s sense of balance.
